Harrow Wayfarers Cricket Club

Welcome

Welcome to the home page of Harrow Wayfarers Cricket Club. Despite our origins being based in Harrow, Middlesex, we are a wandering side and play most of our fixtures in the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and South Oxfordshire areas.

As you will see from our club crest (a bat leaning against a barrel of ale supported by a full pint pot and a cricket ball), the social side of the game is very important to us and despite wanting to win, a good day out and a good game of cricket is paramount.

High on our agenda is supporting the Primary Club (www.primaryclub.org), a fantastic charity that raises money to provide sporting facilities for the blind and partially sighted. We raise money through fines, raffles and providing new members through gaining primaries! 2008 sees our club chairman Rowan Laxton join the Primary Club fundraising team along with Director of Cricket Jerry Laxton. See our link to the Primary Club further down our home page (beneath the news section).

We have a fine band of merry followers (usually very merry if the bar is opened early) and a great bunch of lads, proving that cricket and real ale is a perfect match!

Harrow Wayfarers CC - A history

The club was founded in 1947 by Arthur Barrow a local estate agent and friends and colleagues to play cricket on Wednesday afternoons against the large number of other teams of shopkeepers and those fortunate enough to benefit from midweek half day closing. The original title of the club being Harrow & District (Wednesday) CC. The home ground was The Bees club in Ladygate lane, Ruislip and later known as the Glacier Club. This was the sports and social club for The Glacier Metal Company in Alperton. Many club members were now drawn from the staff of this company, and associate members of the sports club.
By about 1977 The Glacier Metal Co. was unhappy at the low level of representatives from its own staff and associate membership and use of the ground was withdrawn. The club then had to reduce its' fixture list and play 'Away' games only. 1980 saw the last cricket at Ladygate Lane as Glacier sold the ground for housing development. Many players from Glacier and Harrow & District then joined with Old Lyonians CC in Harrow for the 1981 season.
Many midweek teams were struggling to find players and gradually the fixture list shrank. By about 1985 there were only a few representative games left on the fixture card. This year, however, saw what is thought to be the club's first tour, to North Devon. Many players were drawn from Old Lyonians and the following year the tour was vested in their name.
By about 1990 midweek cricket under the Harrow & District name had come to an end. The last years had seen sterling efforts by George Laxton, a member since 1960, and Dave Mills, from Northcote Drifters CC, from whom large numbers of players were found. One fixture against Royal Household at Windsor was all that remained and this was transferred to a Sunday.
By 1996 Old Lyonian were struggling to field teams on a Sunday and some members resurrected the title of Harrow & District. By substituting Wayfarers for Wednesday, a new wandering team was in the process of being formed. A fixture list ran along side that of Old Lyonians for two years with such success that 1999 saw the first full season of cricket under the Harrow & District Wayfarers banner.
The tour to Devon was virtually the only remaining non-league cricket played by Old Lyonians and this too was taken back under the wing of Harrow & District Wayfarers.
We still play Royal Household annually for the Cyril Richardson Memorial Trophy.
2004 saw another name change, as Harrow and District Wayfarers became simply Harrow Wayfarers. This coincided with the design of a new club crest, which is used today. A barrel of ale supported by a bat, ball and glass of ale. To coincide with this, the club sported colours for the first time. They are affectionately described as Avocado and Blackberry, but we'll let you make your mind up on that one!
The year 2008 sees our ninth full season with fixtures ranging from village greens to ECB premier clubs, a short tour to Kent and a week long tour to Devon and Somerset. The weekend fixtures are in a rough geographical area bordered by the A1 to the North and the M3 to the South, from the City of London to clubs in Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Hertfordshire.
Harrow Wayfarers play non-league cricket in a friendly but competitive spirit, catering for all ages and abilities. The club is affiliated to The Club Cricket Conference and The Devon Cricket Association.
The support of friends and families of all ages is encouraged and our membership pool is constantly increasing. Let us hope that the club survives for many years to come.

Meet our sponsors - ALCHEMY SOHO

MASTERING
Opened in April 2004, the attention to detail and quality demanded in the design and construction of our mastering suites is mirrored with the choice and standard of our equipment, cable selection, through to the installation and management of the incoming power supply.

As a mastering client you can be sure of a peerless service - whilst enjoying a cappuccino, or a game of pool and a beer - to match the unrivalled views across London's skyline.

AUDIO POST-PRODUCTION
Attention to detail has been paramount during the design and construction of the suites to provide a comfortable working environment, with each studio having an additional private area for clients to sit and make telephone calls or read through scripts. The suites are regularly described by our clients as relaxing and calming, which we consider can only benefit the creative process when putting together your commercial or soundtrack. The studios are well connected with high capacity data circuits and ISDN.

As a client you can experience the excellent atmosphere and the incredible views across the London skyline, it certainly makes a change from being stuck in a basement and beats resorting to a Playstation to keep you occupied during those 'slow' moments.

LOCALISATION
Alchemy provides recording and supplies voices for training programs and foreign language courses. Alchemy does not provide the services of a voice agent, but for clients who require assistance to locate voices for foreign language projects Alchemy has built up a database of suitable artists. We are able to provide samples of each voice for evaluation in either WAV or MP3 formats

DUPLICATION
Alchemy’s duplication arm was established three years ago by Phil Kinrade to expand the services on offer to include CD duplication, pre-mastering compilation, digital editing and creation of production parts. The facility has been busy from the start, serving major record companies and independent clients alike.
Phil Kinrade
Services include;
Production Masters - 1630/U-matic, Exabyte, CD-R
CD duplication with on-body printing and full colour sleeve artwork
CD Watermarking
Digital editing and album compilation
CD-Extra design and assembly
Wav. File creation
DVD Duplication
DAT and Minidisc duplication

E-Copy Room

Alchemy were early adopters of Internet technology and the soon to open e-copy room has been created to deal with the management and creation of files that are for distribution and delivery over the Internet.

CD, DDP image files can be delivered straight to the CD factory, reducing production times, WAV files can be delivered via FTP for edit approval, or for incorporation in to multimedia presentations and streaming files created for promotional use.

The creation of streaming files involves data compression; we feel that this format should receive the same attention to detail as other formats in order to avoid artefacts, which can be caused during encoding.

For traditionalists we also offer ISDN.
